The Contributor Tasks are pretty much all that remains of the old Getting Involved Guide (except a few other stray pages)

Contributor Tasks
Note: This section is in process of being migrated to the Find a task page in the new Contributor Guide. Try searching there for a task instead of looking in this section -- some tasks have been moved there already. When the migration is complete, we will remove this section.

We need to migrate them into "Contributor Task" content items so they will show up under the "Find a Task" page in the new Contributor Guide https://www.drupal.org/community/contributor-guide/find-a-task

But the problem is, I think some of the tasks are outdated/obsolete and I could use some help figuring out which ones are good and which ones are not... I am not sure how to get this feedback or who to ask. I've asked in the past few meetings but so far ...

jhodgdon (she/her) 1 day ago
I've also asked in the Mentoring channel.

rachel_norfolk 10 hours ago
Awesome work!

rachel_norfolk 10 hours ago
Yes - there is little doubt that tasks in lots of places are in need of review, now that we have them migrated

jhodgdon (she/her) 3 hours ago
I think what I'm going to try to do is post queries every few days about specific Contributor Tasks asking "Is this task still current and/or desirable to have?"

jhodgdon (she/her) 3 hours ago
Rather than trying to get feedback on all of them, which hasn't been working.

[Meta] Create content for Contributor Area sections
We need to create content for all of the Contribution Areas. Here are the guidelines for how/when/why to create a contribution area page: Guidelines for contribution areas. For each Contribution Area page, we need to create a child issue with the following summary: Develop/edit content for Contribute to WHATEVER IT IS Area Page of the Contributor Guide.

I have not made any progress on this lately, except that @MargyLY is working on organizing documentation about planning events for the Event Planning area https://www.drupal.org/community/contributor-guide/contribution-areas/event-planning

The event planning group provided a jumble of docs, and we got some from BADCamp as well, and I connected Margy to that documentation and set her loose.... Any status updates Margy?

I'm not really feeling like the meetings are accomplishing much lately... I wonder if we should stop holding them?

jhodgdon (she/her) 1 day ago
The fact that today, no one has yet replied to any of the meeting threads is indicative...

jhodgdon (she/her) 1 day ago
Another thing we could do is broaden the scope of the meetings to include other documentation issues, and maybe have them only once a month. @eojthebrave @ambermatz and others involved in docs leadership -- would that make sense?

jhodgdon (she/her) 1 day ago

I don't personally have any specific projects that I'm working on. But I would be happy to help facilitate/participate in a monthly meeting. I could see it being useful in that documentation generally gets more interest when there are organized efforts going on. And just generally fostering the people who are interested in contributing. Ha. Helping with that space is something I think about frequently but just have not had the time for recently.

jhodgdon (she/her) 23 hours ago
That sounds good. Any particular time or day of the week that would be good for the monthly meeting? We've been having this meeting about the Contributor Guide on alternate Tuesdays at 9 AM Pacific time. So we could pick something like "First Tuesday of the month at 9 AM Pacific"?

ambermatz 23 hours ago
That time would be fine with me.

rachel_norfolk 10 hours ago
It probably does make sense to broaden the scope now, as that will allow documentation as a whole to be considered, in addition to the contributor guide. It all needs to work together to help someone on the edge of our community become interested in contributing and help them get more and more from the experience.

rachel_norfolk 10 hours ago
We have made a start on that road - and still some way to go, of course!

It is fab that we now have so much content in the Contributor Guide. It has been a big effort to get there!
I think, maybe, what might be useful on the top level pages, is some further design work - maybe images etc to help guide people. I think one thing I want to do is get some input on how we can improve further the usability, now we have something to see

jhodgdon (she/her) 3 hours ago
Design is definitely not my strong point!

rachel_norfolk 2 hours ago
Yeah - we need to think about attracting it. I have a few ideas...

jhodgdon (she/her) 2 hours ago
We also need to make sure the text on the page doesn't get replaced by images though. Not everyone can see images.

rachel_norfolk 2 hours ago
Totally

jhodgdon (she/her) 1 hour ago
So... I don't see any links to the Contributor Guide from the main nav menu on drupal.org. If I were looking for it, I think I would look in Community or Give. And maybe in the footer under Community. Should we make a drupalorg project issue to add those links (or somewhere else)?

rachel_norfolk 14 minutes ago
Yes!

jhodgdon (she/her) 10 minutes ago
I guess we probably need a drupalorg project issue to get that done... I'll make one and post in the drupalorg channel.

Adding log.

One note: We decided going forward that we should have monthly meetings about contributing to documentation in general, rather than this lately rather poorly attended meeting focused on the Contributor Guide.

So, the next meeting will likely be posted under https://www.drupal.org/project/issues/documentation instead of in this project's issue list.
