- Jennifer has made starter pages for the "Skills", and they need content and editing. You can help!

Kristen, Coarsegold, CA, USA, I haven't been to one of these meetings before but I did a bunch of typos fixes over the last few days. I'll check the meeting threads right now. As for outside, sadly it's been 100+ degrees here so we haven't even been walking in the neighborhood. :(

A contribution event is a get-together for collaborative work on a Drupal project. Contributions to a project can include organizing events, designing a user interface, translating text, writing documentation, reviewing other contributions, finding or verifying bugs and submitting reports, writing code and many other tasks.

I plan on being there, as well, and have the usual ‘first-time contributor sprint’ presentation underway. Need still to connect with mentoring team about specifics of this particular effort, so just fyi atm.

Hm, if I go to https://events.drupal.org/global2020/schedule/all and filter to contribution event, it is showing up empty also. I guess the site is still a work in progress.

I'm trying to read through this thread. There's a lot! I signed up for the getopensocial thing. I'm not familiar with that. I noticed a nitpick on the DrupalCon contribution page:"Please let us know how you can help by filling in the Mentor Spreadsheet of Awesomness."Awesomeness is missing an "e" :)

It looks like those of us who might be leaders/mentors of a group on https://contrib2020.getopensocial.net/all-groups are encouraged to create an "Event" that says "I will be available at these hours for mentoring" or something to that effect.

Can someone (@Carolyn Shannon maybe?) who us not in US/Pacific time zone take a look at https://contrib2020.getopensocial.net/group/new-contributor-guide/events and tell me what time the two events are shown at? I set my time zone to US/Pacific but I am not sure what times the site is showing me, or if I put the time in correctly for my event because the site doesn't seem to say "you are using this time zone" when it displays or asks for dates/times. Somewhat confusing!

Perfect, thanks! So FYI it is showing times for events in the time you have set up in your profile, and when you create an event, it shows you your local time.

I don't really get the open social site. Am I supposed to sign up for each "group" or each event or ? It says I can "leave group" but I don't remember ever signing up for the group. If I look at group members, I'm not listed. Maybe I'm being dense. Didn't get a lot of sleep. Is it bad UX or just me? :)

I can join other groups so maybe I did join the documentation group and didn't realize it. I think the system is just buggy. I joined one group and then it still shows "Join" as the button. And, it still has the number of members as 1 when there are 2 of us.

It's just broken. I logged back out and back in. I can't join that group but it shows I'm not a member in other areas. Anyway... have to move onto other things. Maybe it'll fix itself if I go away. :slightly_smiling_face: (edited)

I think it signed me up for the group when I made the account, because I went in via that group? Not sure, but somehow I was a member. I haven't tried to join any other groups. But the site does appear to have some bugs -- for instance, it lost one of my edits of the About page for the Contributor Guide group.

Anyway it is probably better than nothing! Not sure if we need people to "join" the groups to contribute anyway, as long as we're clear about how to participate in contributing.

To be honest, joining the group simply allows people to post messages in the group, introducing themselves and looking for tasks to do. Being able to gather people together and talk between them really comes into it’s own when we have 1st time contributors

Also, I haven't written it up as a task, but eventually we have a 3rd task to do: go through pages in the existing Getting Involved Guide, figure out what content type or types they belong in, migrate the content, and delete/redirect the pages. That one is the most complex I think. I've started working on some of that content, outside of Skills and those written-up tasks.

I hope they will be redirected from the old pages rather than the old pages being deleted in case there are people with bookmarks or they are coming from external pages with old links

That is the last step of the two tasks: to add a note to an issue, after which I will come by and delete/redirect the old pages (and verify the content got migrated).
