I have applied 'access administration menu' and 'administer menu' rights to a non-admin user. When they log in, the admin menu bar appears but is completely blank - ie no menu options.
The only thing that does appear is the drupal icon link with one option to 'run updates'. As they have no permission for 'display drupal links' I am suprised this is there.
Is there anyway to reset permissions? Am I right in assuming that a non-admin user should see a filtered version of the menu which would give them permission to create content etc if allowed?

sunPlease have a look in the README.txt and on the project page.
Both places clearly state that this module is for administrative purposes only - as the module name implies. Non-admin users should not have access to this module. The README.txt should contain additional information about how you can re-use admin_menu's CSS + JS in your theme to create a similar menu.

mbiddlecombe commentedOk. I have read that. But what made me ask the question was the 'filtered' menu that is on the demonstration site. How is this achieved if not by giving only some admin permissions to certain users.
sunAnonymous users are granted access to certain administrative functions on the demo site, such as creating content, adding comments, administering menus. Some Drupal core hacks were required to make this happen, so please do not try to copy/emulate this. Additionally, Demo module does its rest.

In fact you are correct in your assumption.
I think what you want to do is give that role this permission:
access administration pages
Then you should see what you're looking for (create content, etc).

elijah lynn.02 - I would like to see admin menu be available for non-admin users. It makes Drupal life much easier and more efficient and not everyone should be an admin to use this awesome tool.
