I am planning the update to Drupal 8.8 and have been following a guide from this blog post.
I am finding that the database update does not work with Group 8.x-1.0-rc4 installed; failing with the following error.
Error: Call to a member function getDefinitions() on null in Drupal\group\Entity\Views\GroupContentViewsData->getViewsData() (line 79 of /Users/paul/Sites/schoolupdate/public_html/web/modules/contrib/group/src/Entity/Views/GroupContentViewsData.php) #0 /Users/paul/Sites/schoolupdate/public_html/web/core/modules/views/views.views.inc(178): Drupal\group\Entity\Views\GroupContentViewsData->getViewsData()
I found that I needed to install the current dev of Group for the update to succeed.
This was only a test for my production site and I'd being interested to know whether I could gone about in a different way to avoid the error.
Any suggestions much appreciated.

larowlanActually the issue here is that GroupViewsData defines an entityManager property so the magic __get doesn't fire

larowlanThe fix here is to apply the patch from #3068918: 8.8.x: PHP Fatal error: Uncaught Error: Call to a member function getBaseFieldDefinitions() on null - related to GroupContentViewsData.php or to use the -dev version

berdirNote that this has been fixed in dev already in #3061353: Replace deprecated EntityManager and add EntityFieldManager in GroupContentViewsData, the other issue will only be committable once group decides to require 8.8.

phjouI just found that error too.
Since it's fixed and Drupal 8.8 is released, it would be nice to create a new release to avoid that people spent time on that.
