broonI am not sure I can follow your idea. Where would that field_aliases be? As part of the taxonomy fields or part of the Onomasticon filter settings?
There is a Synonyms module but it's in alpha for Drupal 8 and I still need to understand how it works. Maybe that can be used by adding a submodule (Onomasticon Synonyms Integration).

rattusrattus commentedI actually have a patch that introduces this functionality but is specific to my installation currently though I'm sure it wouldn't take much to generalise it.
broonLooking at your patch, the newly introduced function getVariations() is looking for a
'field_glossary_variations'field. That's probably the part that needs to be generalised. If the Synonyms module mentioned above has a public function to retrieve synonyms for a specific term, we could add support for this. I added an issue to their queue to investigate the possibilities.Comment #8
broonFeature requests always go against the dev version.

rattusrattus commentedAny update on this Paul?

broonI added an issue to the Synonyms module issue queue, see #3075996: Service to get all synonyms for a term (to be used by other modules) - but there has been no reaction, yet. I am currently finalising a website relaunch and had not much time to look into that myself.
broonAs there hasn't been any response on the linked issue, I think this can't be fixed now. I'll close it for now, if there is any news on Synonyms module, please re-open if applicable.

devad commentedThe related Synonyms issue is updated today:
#3075996: Service to get all synonyms for a term (to be used by other modules)
broonTook a while, but it works now using the Synonyms module and the recommend installation procedure.
