Chris, UK/CR, was travelling yesterday.. like to retreat to the water, underwater or in the waves preferably..

:one: Meeting Schedule: Is the time still okay? Are two week intervals right? Anything else pertaining to scheduling getting together?

Jennifer Hodgdon 4 days ago
It feels right to me. Not too frequent, but not too infrequent.

Rachel Lawson:yorkshire: 4 days ago
Also, are there any other places we should be advertising this?

Melissa Stamm 4 days ago
this works fine for me

Daniel Pickering:decepticon: 4 days ago
Irrelevant to me time wise intervals depends this is my first one so. We will see

Rachel Lawson:yorkshire: 4 days ago
the first of many, I hope

Alona Oneill 4 days ago
fine for me

Carolyn Shannon (she/her):seedling: 3 days ago
This is good; I missed today and hope to pick back up next week but thank you for asking!

Chris Darke 3 days ago
works for me normally..

:two: Issues and progress: @Carolyn Shannon did an awesome job :awthanks: coordinating the creation of a Kanban board and it is now easy to see our current status at a glance. See https://contribkanban.com/board/GettingInvolvedGuide. Does everyone feel this is the right structure?

Daniel Pickering:decepticon: 4 days ago
Looks good to me.

Jennifer Hodgdon 4 days ago
I personally would be more likely to use the drupal.org issue list than that site. I'm used to how that looks (color coding etc.). But if others like it, sure!

Jennifer Hodgdon 4 days ago
I mean, I'm involved with X numbers of projects that use d.o issues, so ... only 1 format to glance at means I don't have to think/learn something new.

Rachel Lawson:yorkshire: 4 days ago
I’ve added both links to the project home page, to help

Melissa Stamm 4 days ago
I like boards like this. The statuses are good but to clarify - does Active=backlog and “Needs Work”=In progress?
:heavy_plus_sign:
1

Rachel Lawson:yorkshire: 4 days ago
Yes, pretty much!

Jennifer Hodgdon 4 days ago
To me, this is much much easier to scan (table rather than "blocks"): https://www.drupal.org/project/issues/drupal_org_community?text=&status=Open&priorities=All&categories=All&version=All&component=Getting+Involved+Guide

Rachel Lawson:yorkshire: 4 days ago
That we can do both but the data comes from the single source is a bonus, in my mind!

Jennifer Hodgdon 4 days ago
Sure! Again, I have no problem with others using the kanban board. :)

Daniel Pickering:decepticon: 4 days ago
I prefer the separate page or it will melt into all the other things I do. (edited)

Jennifer Hodgdon 4 days ago
Sounds like we should keep the kanban!
:heavy_plus_sign:
1

Jennifer Hodgdon 4 days ago
No downside.
:heavy_plus_sign:
1

Melissa Stamm 4 days ago
Yes, as long as they’re linked/using same data source, perfect! I’m more used to working in boards like Jira

David Wells 4 days ago
Kanban's perfect. Easy interface, similar to other tools like Trello.

:three: Action - Agree process for quality checking: Can we get a process document together, along with choosing any tools, to define this? Can someone own this? #3069010: https://www.drupal.org/project/drupal_org_community/issues/3069010

Rachel Lawson:yorkshire: 4 days ago
I’m quite keen for this to be pretty solid early on

Jennifer Hodgdon 4 days ago
Yes. I put a lot of links there, but we need to make some decisions.

Rachel Lawson:yorkshire: 4 days ago
quite. What is needed before a decision can be made?

Jennifer Hodgdon 4 days ago
Anyone want to volunteer to test out one of the auto-checking tools listed there and report back? That is a self-contained task...

Jennifer Hodgdon 4 days ago
Maybe we could pick one or two d.o pages to test the automated tools on?

Jennifer Hodgdon 4 days ago
(such as some pages in the current Getting Involved Guide)

Rachel Lawson:yorkshire: 4 days ago
yes - if someone can find a reasonable way of running a tool against a page and having a report, that would be great!

Jennifer Hodgdon 4 days ago
Here's one page that could be tested: https://www.drupal.org/contributor-tasks/accessibility-review

Melissa Stamm 4 days ago
I’d be happy to do some testing. Not very skilled in command line (someone else may want to do that one)

Daniel Pickering:decepticon: 4 days ago
Where is the cli tool?

Jennifer Hodgdon 4 days ago
And here's one with no pictures: https://www.drupal.org/contributor-tasks/support-requests

Rachel Lawson:yorkshire: 4 days ago
@Melissa Stamm I’m happy to help out. If you lead with it, I’ll help and also liaise with DA staff

Rachel Lawson:yorkshire: 4 days ago
(if they can help us in some way)

Daniel Pickering:decepticon: 4 days ago
Maybe a page on how to do it with the command line would be useful for us and others

Rachel Lawson:yorkshire: 4 days ago
That’s what we are hoping to create here, Daniel

Jennifer Hodgdon 4 days ago
OK, how about this: I will write up a quick guide for how to test a page with a tool and what feedback we would like, and then whoever wants to can claim a took and report back?
:+1:
1

Jennifer Hodgdon 4 days ago
claim a "tool" I mean!

Melissa Stamm 4 days ago
I can lead (but will definitely need some mentoring…I’m pretty new here)
:slightly_smiling_face:
1

Rachel Lawson:yorkshire: 4 days ago
Yay! Can you work with @jhodgdon (she/her), @Melissa Stamm and get something together others can help with?

Jennifer Hodgdon 4 days ago
do you want to write up a quick guide on what feedback we want about the tools then Melissa, or should I do that?

Jennifer Hodgdon 4 days ago
I have some ideas

Rachel Lawson:yorkshire: 4 days ago
:slightly_smiling_face:

Jennifer Hodgdon 4 days ago
good idea, how about @Melissa Stamm and I will get together on this offline and post something soon on the issue?
:+1:
2

Melissa Stamm 4 days ago
@jhodgdon (she/her) please feel free to start it off. You know what you’re looking for

Jennifer Hodgdon 4 days ago
let's discuss after the meeting, do you have a bit of time?

Melissa Stamm 4 days ago
yes!

David Wells 4 days ago
My career before Drupaling was working as a freelance journalist and on a copy desk. Happy to proof if I can get tagged on pages to proof.
:partyparrot:
2

Rachel Lawson:yorkshire: 4 days ago
That’s awesome! The key is getting our standards right, so you have something to proof against

David Wells 4 days ago
AP Style has been my go-to for a long time. If we want to use that as a starting point, we can extend and revise it to incorporate Drupal-specific terms (i.e., how to refer to a contributed module first reference, etc.).
1

Melissa Stamm 4 days ago
Agree with @dwells-tn (he/him) on AP style as a general guide. I haven’t had chance to read the drupal specific guides yet.

Rachel Lawson:yorkshire: 4 days ago
Note that there are some defined styles for the Core Official Docs. Whilst we might want to be more “conversational” in our language, I can imagine that would form a good basis

Rachel Lawson:yorkshire: 4 days ago
@jhodgdon (she/her) will know the location of those styles

Jennifer Hodgdon 4 days ago
They are on that issue.

Jennifer Hodgdon 4 days ago
I think I found all of the existing drupal.org style guides anyway...

Melissa Stamm 4 days ago
@jhodgdon (she/her) and @rachel_norfolk am I to assign this issue to myself? I haven’t really touched the issue queue before so I don’t want to violate any protocols :slightly_smiling_face:

Rachel Lawson:yorkshire: 4 days ago
Please feel free!

Rachel Lawson:yorkshire: 4 days ago
In the drupal core project, we generally don’t do that but other projects do

Rachel Lawson:yorkshire: 4 days ago
So yeah, go for it!

Jennifer Hodgdon 4 days ago
@Melissa Stamm Actually people often do assign issues to themselves even in Drupal Core. It's a way to say "I'm working on this".

Jennifer Hodgdon 4 days ago
Anyway... melissa do you want to discuss what people could do to test those text analysis tools?

Jennifer Hodgdon 4 days ago
My thought is that we would ask people to comment on:
- What platforms does it run on?
- Is it interactive or can it be scripted?
- Is it free/open source or proprietary?
- Is it easy to run on a drupal.org web page (or do you need to do something first like export to a file of some sort)?
- How difficult is it to install/configure (what are the steps or a URL pointing to them)?
- What results does it give you for [let's pick one drupal.org page to run on]?

Jennifer Hodgdon 4 days ago
does that make sense? Maybe also "What does it analyze?"

Jennifer Hodgdon 4 days ago
because there are tools for accessibility, language level, etc.

Jennifer Hodgdon 4 days ago
I suggest we pick one page to have the various tools run on, like for instance https://www.drupal.org/contributor-tasks/support-requests which is part of the existing Getting Involved Guide.

Jennifer Hodgdon 4 days ago
then at least we can compare the various tools, and pick which one(s) give us useful information.

Jennifer Hodgdon 4 days ago
Anyway, if we come up with a list of questions, people can pick a tool and answer them.

Jennifer Hodgdon 4 days ago
So, those would be my suggested questions... off the top of my head... People could just post answers in a comment on the issue?

Jennifer Hodgdon 4 days ago
I'll let you decide @Melissa Stamm since you are taking point on this! :) I'll be around for another hour or so, then I have to go out...

Jennifer Hodgdon 4 days ago
but need to EAT now!

Melissa Stamm 3 days ago
sorry! I was talking to a coworker. I’ll read and respond asap

Jennifer Hodgdon 9 hours ago
@Melissa Stamm were you going to work on getting this ready for people to test tools, or should I take that on?

Melissa Stamm 8 hours ago
@jhodgdon (she/her) So sorry, been slammed at the day job. I think your ideas above sound good re the types of feedback we would want on the tools. If you can summarize those in the ticket, I think that’s a good start. Also…do we want to open it up for others to suggest other tools they might use or be familiar with?

Jennifer Hodgdon 8 hours ago
Definitely! The list in there just came from Slack discussions, I think at the previous meeting mostly. Or my head. ?!? I will do that anyway, update the issue.

Jennifer Hodgdon 8 hours ago
Although maybe not until tomorrow. Brain is a bit fried at the moment. I need to at least take a break and do some stretches...

Melissa Stamm 8 hours ago
Or…if you think it would be helpful to organize feedback, we could try a shared Google sheet e.g., https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1fXdbxyTP8CHy7lxs_Fi84cGTUc9Vrx0mUHwCD-yEmp8/edit?usp=sharing

Melissa Stamm 8 hours ago
Just a quick attempt to see if I could create data validation for some of the questions

Jennifer Hodgdon 7 hours ago
Oh yeah, loving that!! I would take off the "everyone with the link can edit" sharing though. Usually I don't post those in public channels. :) People can DM you for sharing.

Jennifer Hodgdon 7 hours ago
or me if you give me access to administer sharing

Jennifer Hodgdon 7 hours ago
anyway I like that thought of using a spreadsheet.

Jennifer Hodgdon 7 hours ago
ok I'm heading away from my desk to do stretches now...

Melissa Stamm 7 hours ago
Ok, I’ve changed sharing to “OFF - only specific people can access” for now. I’ll try to figure out permissions and complete the columns (tomorrow probably). I’m not super familiar with Google tools (at work, we primarily use O365/Microsoft tools and Box) :grimacing: Thanks and have a good evening!

Jennifer Hodgdon 5 hours ago
I've at least summarized this thread in the issue. Drupal Slack loses messages after some time... don't want that happening!

:four: Action - proposed personas: Can we agree on the personas we intend to write for in this issue? #3068287: https://www.drupal.org/project/drupal_org_community/issues/3068287

Rachel Lawson:yorkshire: 4 days ago
I’m particularly keen to get the personas clearly defined now.

Jennifer Hodgdon 4 days ago
OK, so we created that issue after the last meeting. I proposed some personas, and several people had suggestions.

Jennifer Hodgdon 4 days ago
If you're looking through that issue, the hope today is to ratify and/or modify the list that is in the "Proposed Resolution" section of the issue summary there.

Jennifer Hodgdon 4 days ago
Any thoughts, comments, additions we need to make?

Rachel Lawson:yorkshire: 4 days ago
very happy to see non-code things in there!

Melissa Stamm 4 days ago
I’m still digesting, a lot of info there

Rachel Lawson:yorkshire: 4 days ago
It feels like a long list. Is that a problem?

Daniel Pickering:decepticon: 4 days ago
Are these going to be new tags?

Jennifer Hodgdon 4 days ago
Well, I think it's important to include everyone in the Personas. I don't think there is a one-to-one correspondence between Personas and either sections on Community landing page or sections of Getting Involved. I think of it more as a list we can refer back to, to make sure everyone is covered and we've considered everyone's needs.

Jennifer Hodgdon 4 days ago
tags for what @ikit-claw?

Daniel Pickering:decepticon: 4 days ago
How are personas going to be used?

Melissa Stamm 4 days ago
I’m wondering .. are each of these skills/characteristics/motivations going to lead people down a particular path? Act as filters?

Jennifer Hodgdon 4 days ago
I think we want to use the list as we design the Getting Involved Guide and maybe update the Community landing page, to make sure we've covered everyone's needs. That's how I see it.

Jennifer Hodgdon 4 days ago
So, my vision is that a new person wanting to get involved in the Drupal community would get funneled first to the Community landing page.
:heavy_plus_sign:
1

Jennifer Hodgdon 4 days ago
That page would lead them to one or more sections of Getting Involved that fit with their interests, skills, and motivations.

Jennifer Hodgdon 4 days ago
So we want to make sure, when we look at the Community landing page and Getting Involved Guide, that we've covered all the bases. The list of Personas I see as a tool for figuring that out.

Daniel Pickering:decepticon: 4 days ago
I'm just wondering how characteristics fit into this. for me personally age gender employment location all these things do not matter to me.

Jennifer Hodgdon 4 days ago
So for instance, we could take the skill of "Speaking" (presumably that means public speaking), and see if the Community landing page has something for a person who wants to use that skill, and then if they get led to an appropriate section of Getting Invovled. If not, we have work to do.

Jennifer Hodgdon 4 days ago
For many of the characteristics, I think the main thing is to make sure our language is inclusive to all of those groups?
:+1:
1

Melissa Stamm 4 days ago
Ok, sounds like this is tagging/taxonomy that leads a contributor to particular relevant content

Melissa Stamm 4 days ago
Sounds like the characteristics are more at play then in the style guidelines (inclusive language) than as some aspect of a persona?
:+1:
1

Jennifer Hodgdon 4 days ago
Perhaps, but I'm not sure if we want to use tags search to lead people there... Hopefully the organization of the Getting Involved Guide and Community will be clear enough via its navigation. But when we get down to the task level (specific tasks for contributors), I agree the skills could tag each task and that could be quite useful!

Daniel Pickering:decepticon: 4 days ago
Yeah lets avoid automatically filtering because people may want to do something different and learn. (edited)

Jennifer Hodgdon 4 days ago
Sure! That is why one of the motivations is "improve skills" :)

Jennifer Hodgdon 4 days ago
But if we have a part of the Guide (or a content type?) that is specifically for tasks people can do, maybe a taxonomy tagging by skills needed would be very helpful, if it can be searched?

Daniel Pickering:decepticon: 4 days ago
an exposed tag filter would help people find more

Jennifer Hodgdon 4 days ago
yes.

Jennifer Hodgdon 4 days ago
So... Back to the question at hand: What do we think about the proposed list of personas? Does it seem useful? Are there missing ones? Should we drop anything?

Jennifer Hodgdon 4 days ago
(keeping in mind it is a tool for testing/evaluating our structure and content, not a one-to-one for the outline)

Jennifer Hodgdon 4 days ago
Or can we adopt it as it is (we can always modify down the road if we need to)

Daniel Pickering:decepticon: 4 days ago
Well you don't have the entire list of front end specialties front end can mean very different things to different people.

Jennifer Hodgdon 4 days ago
OK, do you have some examples?

Daniel Pickering:decepticon: 4 days ago
decupled, patternlap, css, sass, react so on

Jennifer Hodgdon 4 days ago
I guess we have HTML, CSS, and JavaScript listed.

Jennifer Hodgdon 4 days ago
in the Skills section.

Melissa Stamm 4 days ago
Does it need to be that specific? Couldn’t a personas skills be “front end” and “back end” or “full stack” development?

Jennifer Hodgdon 4 days ago
Good question.

Daniel Pickering:decepticon: 4 days ago
I'm for specifics, I don't like assumptions.

Daniel Pickering:decepticon: 4 days ago
but perhaps this should all be in skills

Jennifer Hodgdon 4 days ago
Yeah, I'm not sure about "back end". Some people may have "back end" skills that are not useful to bring to Drupal, such as programming in C#

Daniel Pickering:decepticon: 4 days ago
exactly

Jennifer Hodgdon 4 days ago
So I think I am with @ikit-claw to be specific.

Daniel Pickering:decepticon: 4 days ago
Collect everything part from personal information lol

Jennifer Hodgdon 4 days ago
So what other specific skills should we add to the skills area, that are actually useful to the project at this time?

Jennifer Hodgdon 4 days ago
You mentioned: "decupled, patternlap, css, sass, react so on"

Jennifer Hodgdon 4 days ago
Decoupled doesn't sound too specific...

Jennifer Hodgdon 4 days ago
Maybe an entry for "Pattern libraries, such as ... [not sure what to put in there]" ?

Daniel Pickering:decepticon: 4 days ago
Decoupled backend is specific that is when drupal is the backend and something else is the front end.

Jennifer Hodgdon 4 days ago
OK, another entry for "Building decoupled front-ends using Drupal as back end" [is that React?]

Melissa Stamm 4 days ago
I’m still not entirely clear on how these are to be used, except maybe to allow people can scan through a list and see their particular skill listed?

Daniel Pickering:decepticon: 4 days ago
I believe the idea is you tag something and then you need that knowledge base to do X

Daniel Pickering:decepticon: 4 days ago
Which could then lead into docs in how to do X

Jennifer Hodgdon 4 days ago
Well, we want to make sure that (a) someone with that type of skill can go to Community and find a section relevant to them and (b) that they can quickly find some specific contribution tasks in Getting Involved that would hopefully use those skills.

Daniel Pickering:decepticon: 4 days ago
We could add composer as a skill a lot of people are still kinda anti composer?

Jennifer Hodgdon 4 days ago
Some of the skills may be useful to the project as "skills you could talk about at a conference or teach someone else how to use or write documentation about"
:+1:
1

Jennifer Hodgdon 4 days ago
Regarding Composer we have "Familiarity with development tools (IDEs, Git, LAMP stack, how to make screenshots, etc.)"

Jennifer Hodgdon 4 days ago
could add Composer there, or should it be separate?

Jennifer Hodgdon 4 days ago
I vote for including it there

Daniel Pickering:decepticon: 4 days ago
I think composer is its own thing and you can tweak it depending on what you are doing really

Jennifer Hodgdon 4 days ago
ok

Daniel Pickering:decepticon: 4 days ago
but it is also in that group of required tools

Daniel Pickering:decepticon: 4 days ago
For D8 at least

Jennifer Hodgdon 4 days ago
yup

Jennifer Hodgdon 4 days ago
well 7 is nearly over.

Daniel Pickering:decepticon: 4 days ago
Seems like a marked effort to keep it going though

Jennifer Hodgdon 4 days ago
there was with 6 also.

Daniel Pickering:decepticon: 4 days ago
Yeah but with backdrop would it be better to extend D7 just to keep them in the drupal sphere

Jennifer Hodgdon 4 days ago
So... Let's continue this discussion on the issue about personas. I'll put a few suggestions up there from this thread, but let's try to get the specific additions/changes finalized in the next few days or week?

Rachel Lawson:yorkshire: 4 days ago
yes please - it’s all good stuff but needs to be in the issue, really

Jennifer Hodgdon 4 days ago
yes but having interactive discussions are also useful!
:heavy_plus_sign:
1

Rachel Lawson:yorkshire: 4 days ago
What should the “summary” be that gets added to that issue?

Jennifer Hodgdon 4 days ago
Um. Well it seems like maybe we're OK with the personas as they are, but we need a few more skills added to the list, which we'll hopefully refine in the next week?

Jennifer Hodgdon 4 days ago
I'm going to update that issue now...

Jennifer Hodgdon 4 days ago
OK, I've updated the issue summary (much shorter and hopefully clearer now) and added a comment to https://www.drupal.org/project/drupal_org_community/issues/3068287#comment-13202030 -- @ikit-claw and @Melissa Stamm your thoughts on what to do with those suggestions we had here (and anyone else's) are particularly solicited! Please comment now on the issue.

Jennifer Hodgdon 9 hours ago
https://www.drupal.org/project/drupal_org_community/issues/3068287#comment-13202030 is still awaiting suggestions on some additional "skills" personas we might need to add...

:five: Action - proposed outline: Can we get this into an issue so we can agree to it? Is the only dependency the personas work? see #3071313: https://www.drupal.org/project/drupal_org_community/issues/3071313

Rachel Lawson:yorkshire: 4 days ago
Can I also mention that we don’t necessarily have to follow same structure as before.

Rachel Lawson:yorkshire: 4 days ago
I might also mention https://opensource.guide/how-to-contribute/ has some great sections we could make use of! Particularly around the “why” of getting involved (edited)
:heavy_plus_sign:
1

Rachel Lawson:yorkshire: 4 days ago
Should we not even worry about this until we have the right personas in place?

Jennifer Hodgdon 4 days ago
We need to think about structure as well as outline. For instance, we might have Landing Pages and Task Pages
:heavy_plus_sign:
1

Jennifer Hodgdon 4 days ago
We may want to get with the Infra team and think about a new content type with its own taxonomy terms and structure?

Rachel Lawson:yorkshire: 4 days ago
You think we need that?

Jennifer Hodgdon 4 days ago
rather than trying to shoehorn into the existing Docs content types. I am not sure, but maybe a specific taxonomy would be useful, and having one specific to this section means a new content type?

Jennifer Hodgdon 4 days ago
(that is how Drupal works)

Rachel Lawson:yorkshire: 4 days ago

Rachel Lawson:yorkshire: 4 days ago
I think we can do that

Daniel Pickering:decepticon: 4 days ago
Some well written examples are worth gold

Jennifer Hodgdon 4 days ago
Also for tasks, ... in the User Guide we found it useful to have a template, with sections like "Prerequisite knowledge" "Steps". This kind of structure can be easily enforced with a content type that has fields.
:+1:
3

Jennifer Hodgdon 4 days ago
It's a thought anyway.

Jennifer Hodgdon 4 days ago
I propose that we work on the outline, collaboratively, in this issue this next 2 weeks and see how far we can get.
:heavy_plus_sign:
1

Jennifer Hodgdon 4 days ago
I think the Personas are far enough advanced that we can get a good idea anyway.

Carolyn Shannon (she/her):seedling: 3 days ago
I strongly support the idea of a content type w/fields that reinforce the requested sections, to promote uniform strucure.
:+1:
1

Carolyn Shannon (she/her):seedling: 3 days ago
It would be good to also have default text examples for sub-heading fields and such.
:+1:
1

:six: *Question - Do we need to make an actual (empty) section now (at a false uri)?

:yorkshire: 4 days ago
(yes, I reordered this)

Jennifer Hodgdon 4 days ago
I think that may be premature?

Rachel Lawson:yorkshire: 4 days ago
Actually, reading the meeting so far, I think we should hold off

agreed! :slightly_smiling_face:

I think once we have a proposed outline, that might be when to start making a section, and we can start with one of the proposed sections and make it for real.

:seven: Question - what next?: What do we think is a reasonable vision by DrupalCon Amsterdam 2019?

Rachel Lawson:yorkshire: 4 days ago
I’m asking this because we have two huge resources in Amsterdam; people and time. How can we use them? Can we have specific tables on Thursday working on specific things? Can we be ready?

Does the content audit have any cleaning that can be done right away - for example maybe removing all the mentions of CVS https://www.drupal.org/node/1014932

Oooh - nice halfway house

Rachel Lawson:yorkshire: 4 days ago
I think we should be able to have the principles in place - what we want the standards to be, how to check against those standards, what the sections should be and how to help in those sections. Reasonable?

Jennifer Hodgdon 4 days ago
Maybe we could have at least part of the outline and the standards/structure, so that people could start writing a section or two (which might mean moving/copying/editing content from the old guide in a lot of cases)?

For instance, maybe we'll decide we want to have a Task Library, and one thing that could be done at Amsterdam would be to take the existing section for that https://www.drupal.org/contributor-tasks and move them into the new structure/place?
