Jeff Burnz commentedFair enough, however the theme is not dead, only me nearly dead, lol.
I had to take several months off work and that coincided with my server going haywire, big time, host actually gave me an entire year free since it was really their fault (managed server).
I wasn't prepared to risk running that server again since this is the second time it's happened in the last few years so I moved servers - that's taking time as I am still off work.
So yes, I am still getting it up and running - the docs are next, they're critical and need a brush up too.
I'm fixing some issues with the theme caused by Drupal core changes, they're pretty simple and will be releasing a new version in the new year.
agerard commentedHoping Jeff Burnz is ok, considering the long time since the last reply... the theme seems ideal, and I too am interested in whether I should try using it for a new site or find something with documentation before I'm too far into the weeds!

peglauser commentedBest theme... but discovering it without doc is ... looong...
Mr Burnz hope you're OK... and that we-ll have news from you soon.

mudd commentedI love this theme too. Hope everyone is safely working from home.
Count me in if there's a fund to donate to to pay for Jeff's work on this theme. Thank you Jeff!
mediameriquat commentedI agree with @mudd : The development of this theme should be crowdfunded.
Adaptive is a great time saver, since Bootstrap comes with very few regions by default. But the lack of D9 compatibility is irritating.
I'd rather donate a little money than start a new Bootstrap subtheme from scratch. Thank you.

vinaysamantJeff Burnz is not responsive again... no reply on mails nothing..
Jeff plz lets know how can we help. Theme really needs a lot of work to be competent for D8 and D9.. many small issues..
And it's possible to fund this. I can immediately start with $100. Others plz reply on this. I think if we can jointly raise $1000 to begin with, we should be able to draw interest of Jeff or some other competent co-maintainer here..
**The layout system in theme & settings features are awesome..

vinaysamantCool that you people are responding..
I have a plan, open for discussion here -
Plan A : Jeff Burnz or any other competent developer taking over this. If this happens, well! otherwise we have to get our hands dirty.Plan B : Doing it ourselves.
Adaptive Theme & AT Tools are 2 imp components here. Both of them were working perfectly untill 2018. I have developed some good/complex sites using these tools and they work. Please have a look at https://mahainfocorona.in/, https://visionraigad.in/, https://parcfornation.in/. 1st two sites listed here are in my local language and not multilingual. So you may not understand a thing there. But 3rd site is in english. It uses 2-3 different content types, views accordingly with webforms. Other 2 are also same. All those site are in Drupal8, Adaptive Theme. Infact i didn't developed any of site in other Adaptive Theme. I tried Bario & Bartic but didn't like it somehow. The type of customisations, block styles, animations and other features provided by AT are really awesome. And this theme is towards EOL. Can't see it. Not because i use it extensively but it really a good piece of technology...
So i m thinking of making it useful again. My target is : https://demo.zymphonies.com/premium-theme/d8/unix-multipurpose-theme/col... . I should be able to give output like this theme using AT. If you people can also suggest some really good business/professional themes that we should be able to adapt/build out of these efforts then plz hop in.
I find following difficulties while using AT :
This is list is not comprehensive. You all are welcome to add more to this. Dont think of rocket features. They are specific. Lets make it best generic, essential, comprehensive and D9 ready theme. If we can make final list here, my idea is to start a new theme and new module on basis of AT. I have seen and studied code of AT Theme and i can surely take care of some of the points above. But thats for local customization. I never developed a module/theme for drupal or hosted online. I m very good at php-mysql and 20yrs exp. in IT. But never done community contribution. Never even used GIT or patches until now. So if you people can join and train/help me to make it online with drupal then we will be able to build a generic theme for drupal community!
If you people are positive, we can start this as independent discussion and start building.
Awaiting your reply and support.
WebbehIt seems like this issue has moved from documentation-related efforts to module maintainership, so hoping these edits clarify the scope.
vinaysamantsorry but is it problem? should i delete my comment or something?
vinaysamantHello...
anyone home??
WebbehThere is no problem with your comments, @vinaysamant. I was just updating the metadata to encompass the needs of this issue.
wmfinck commentedI supported Adaptive Themes for 3 years with a website membership, but I let it slip when there were no Drupal 8 versions and D8 was two years old. Now I have gone back to check and the website is gone. I do hope Mr. Burnz is okay, I would hate to see this theme and the subthemes he created for it disappear from Drupal.
vinaysamantDo you people think we should take route on #12??
abaier commentedThanks for your input @vinaysamant. That’s a really ambitioned plan.
In my opinion, the first step should rather be a modernisation initiative which brings AT over to D9, without breaking BC. New features could then be added as follow-ups.
I could imagine there are many custom themes based on AT out there, that will need an upgrade path soon. Otherwise they will have to stick with D8 ...
I have to check upgrade_status and upgrade_rector to see where this leads. The development tools (package.json, Gruntfile.js, Susy) will definitely need some updating. I think also some of the JS libraries will be outdated. PHP compatibility and so on ...
Who else needs to bring his AT subthemes to D9?
I have at least three sites waiting for it ... and unfortunately the clients won‘t be able to finance the development of a new theme. BUT: contribution to an upgrade path should be possible.
I can help testing and provide feedback. As site builder and designer, my php skills are kind of limited.
vinaysamantI have 4 or more sites needs upgraded to D9.. All AT.
But your plan sounds more logical. We should 1st focus on making it D9 compatible. And then eventually adding new features..
Recently i realized that AT with paragraphs is more than enough to handle a decent site. I am hosting one such site coming monday. I am thinking of getting my hands dirty from next week on AT..
But question is : should i fork AT and then make it D9 compatible and so on.. because i dont think i can add code to someone else's module unless owner allows me to do so. And if i fork AT and make changes, how will custom themes developed using AT can refer to this new thing?
I am wondering if someone good at Drupal modules and themes terminology can he of some help here. We always have very very limited (or no) documentation in Drupal. So it's like keep exploring forever..

vvs commentedFriends, I have an answer from Jeff from 16 march:
vinaysamantohhh... very sorry to hear this.. but even this is in march.. any update after that??
If he needs other hosting or any support, i can give. And not expecting any charges from him. Can you please convey this message to him? Or is there a way to get in touch with him directly? some phone or email.. plz let us know.
tanjerine commented+1 for ABaier's suggestion to get the theme D9 compatible.
Unfortunately, still learning D8 -- I'm currently in the process of migrating a complex D6 site to D8 -- but can help with testing/documentation/feedback.
I do hope Mr. Burnz is okay.
ivansb@drupal.orgThere are already patches to make at_tools and adaptivetheme compatible with D9 and I've been testing them for several weeks.
While it is working for me... I'm a bit concerned to take all the responsibility of code maintenance on my shoulder since:
a) I'm definitively not a web designer and CSS/JS are not my bread and butter
b) AT code seems a bit "old style" and while back in the days Drupal was anti-OOP, now it went frenzy about dependency injection and what not and I wonder if it can be sustainably kept up to date with core especially considering it seems there is a lot of work going on around Layout Builder and its ecosystem.
On the other hand AT is mostly independent on JS (great!), completely independent from other CSS framework, it is mobile friendly and its CSS aged very well.
So I'd greatly appreciate if my patches would be merged, and someone will take over the projects or co-maintain the projects with Jeff Burnz.
It seems it's very hard to keep contact with Jeff and so it would be hard to be added as co-maintainer, the other option would be to fork the project. I've been far from web development and Drupal for several years. I wouldn't know from where to start and I'd definitively need help for the "web design" part of this module.
But if anyone is going to revive the project I'll surely keep an eye on it and help if needed.
If I remember correctly there has been some life on these projects since one of them lost and then regained the "Stable releases for this project are covered by the security advisory policy." badge.
I see there are other patches that have been RTBC but it seems there is no one available to merge them (same for at_tools).
thanks for any feedback

vinaysamantI proposed a route in #12 .. but none responded to it. We would been somewhere if that was followed.. i m still open for suggestions, but best way the way suggested in #12 and getting it done professionally by sponsoring that development .. AT is indeed a very good theme and its painful and lossful to see it getting lost..
mattbloomfield commentedThis theme is great. I'm not a developer, but I took it upon myself to put together a working version for D9, made of various fixes I found. It works, at least until someone tells me it doesn't. Maybe this can somehow be committed for D9 and development on new features can start from there? I'm not sure how to be designated as a contributor, but I hope this can at least be a starting point to get this at least up to D9, since that seems like a logical first step before adding features.
I'll say it again, just to be sure. I found these fixes, and don't take credit for anything. I just needed a working version of this for D9.
WebbehSomeone would need to initiate the abandoned project process per https://www.drupal.org/node/251466 . As far as I know in this thread, no one has begun that process as originally noted in #25.
vinaysamant@mattbloomfield thanks a lot for ur sincere efforts.. i will surely test and let you know. have you seen my points listed in #12. Have you covered any of them??
mattbloomfield commented@vinaysamant
I haven't covered any of them. That's not to say they're not worthwhile; they're great points and should be addressed. But I'm not a developer. I just wanted to get this theme and its related module up to D9. I'll try to help out as best I can, since this theme is great. You might be in a better position than I am to make those points a reality, and if you wanted to be maintainer after declaring this project abandoned, I'd be all for it. Like I said I'd be happy to help, but I'm not a Drupal developer and I was mainly concerned with removing deprecations.
WebbehReframing this issue for the primary need, which is for co-maintainer(s).
WebbehAnd then as the scope of this issue has changed, changing to 'Active'.
WebbehI want to circle back real quick to the concerns raised in #12. I do not want to discount these as invalid points, however, the issue scope here is about adding a co-maintainer, not about project plans moving forward. These are two separate issues, to which the former (co-maintainers) will be needed before approaching the latter (project plans).
Any movement on this issue should follow the process as outlined in https://www.drupal.org/node/251466 , and communicate the issue and status here.
vinaysamanthii..
i tried installing theme provided in #31 .. refused to install..
Drupal\Core\File\Exception\NotRegularDirectoryException: temporary://update-extraction-c45410fb/Adaptive Theme D9 is not a directory. in Drupal\Core\File\FileSystem->scanDirectory() (line 651 of /var/www/clients/client1/web52/web/core/lib/Drupal/Core/File/FileSystem.php).
vinaysamant@Webbeh, adding co-maintainer has very limited role. Only solution is to rewrite this whole theme and tools module for D9, as much we can. If someone can do this voluntarily then fine otherwise we have the share the expense, and otherwise we have to see some good work vanish!
mattbloomfield commented@vinyasamant
#31 was what I had before I committed and updated it here:
https://www.drupal.org/project/at_tool
Install that via composer, it'll also install this:
https://www.drupal.org/project/at_theme
Those will replace the old Adaptive Theme and AT Tools.
My plan is to get security coverage approval for those, then request to be the owner/maintainer of the old project, then merge the two so we've got a clear path forward. But the above links will get you a D9 version.
vinaysamantohhh
@mattbloomfield thanks a lot...
i m directly taking it on live project.. plz dont abandon the project in future.. can i trust you for that??
I will test this and let you know my observations. And surely help you to get this tested, verified and whatever it takes.. nice to see you!
And plz pardon me for this Corona.. but i will surely pay you for this, if this theme/project comes to even 50% of my expectations. This is from me directly... if others like your job, they may help/reward you more..
Thanks a lot for your sincere efforts!
have you checked my list of issues in #12... kindly check whenever u have some time..
WebbehLike all open-source, this theme project falls on the work of volunteers and contributors. I have trust in u/mattbloomfield steering the ship to bring in new contributors, maintainers, and leads to ensure this project doesn't revert back to an abandoned status.
mattbloomfield commentedI'm trying to get everything sorted out with this theme/module and its D9 counterpart and whether or not merging is the right path forward or not. But once all that's settled and we've got definitive projects going forward (whether merging makes sense, merging which project into which, etc.) I'll hopefully have some contributors/maintainers to really look at your list and see what I/we can do.
That being said, I've taken a look at your list, and a lot of other modules do a lot of the things that you're asking for, which would work in tandem with Adaptive Theme. We've got to take some baby steps first, but I do want to keep improving on this since I think it's by far the best starter theme for Drupal. Once we get things sorted out, I'll keep the list in mind and create new issues accordingly.
mattbloomfield commentedI'm now maintainer, so I'm going to close this.
