Description:
The JSON API module is about providing a HTTP API according to the http://jsonapi.org spec.
The only distraction/deviation from this in JSON API 8.x-1.x was the jsonapi.entity.to_jsonapi (EntityToJsonApi) service.
It is recommended to instead perform HTTP requests to retrieve JSON API representations of entities. For those who are actively relying on this, install JSON API Extras 2.2.
To reduce the API surface of the core module I think it would be fine with moving this to jsonapi_extras. It is not something every decoupled site needs. This way new features can be added more easy
