This issue relates to the Backup and Migrate main page documentation which needs several updates related to developments with the D8 port.

The Drupal 8 Note can be eliminated once a stable release is published.

In the last sentence before "Features . . ." note that cache data is excluded by default in D7 but not yet in D8. See this D8 feature request: Exclude cache table contents by default

Features (version 3.x) Should probably be split into two sections, one for features of 7.x-3.x and a second for features of 8.x-4.x. Alternately, you could reduce the list to only features available in both branches. Adding a note to file backups is available in D7 but not in D8. See this issue: Bring back "Description / note" field to quick save tab (as in Drupal 7 release). Backup to NodeSquirrel should be deleted because it is now built in to 7.x-3.x and is unavailable in the 8.x branch. Some users have been having trouble with Drush in D8 and more testing is needed on the newest D8 code with Drush.

None of the "Modules that enhance Backup and Migrate" have D8 releases. NodeSquirrel is not built in to D8 Backup and Migrate. See this issue: Backup to NodeSquirrel.

Sponsorship: Ronan created NodeSquirrel and I believe still works for Pantheon, so it would be appropriate to keep this sentence given his immense work to create and maintain the module up through this year when he had time limitations due to surgery and increasing workload. However, I also think it would be appropriate to also add a sentence stating an Intellix sponsorship given the time that Alex Andrascu and his team are giving toward the D8 port and maintenance of D7 and D8 branches.

The 7.x-2.x version should be deprecated and either marked as unsupported or removed. This version was left available for a small number of users who found that minor functions they liked in 7.x-2.x were broken in the first 7.x-3.x release. See more discussion regarding this at this issue: Verify 7.x-2.x -to- 7.x-3.x upgrade path, mark 7.x-2.x as unsupported.

@DamienMcKenna thank you for addressing the fact that the 7.x-2.x branch should be deprecated and marked as unsupported. I've responded with more thoughts on this at the issue you created: Verify 7.x-2.x -to- 7.x-3.x upgrade path, mark 7.x-2.x as unsupported.

I've added a section about the D7 information so we can fill it out for D8 seems the logical way to go about doing it.

FYI I've also started new documentation pages for both versions.

I think it's great that more documentation is being done, however, this active issue requests correction of outdated information on the module's main, home page. It looks like someone has indeed updated the home page but hasn't included all the corrections listed at this issue. I'd be happy to help if I could be given temporary editing access. I'm not going to go back and update my issue summary at this point because it is too time-consuming to go point-by-point if no one is comparing the home page with what is written here. Note that some of the errors I point out in the summary still exist while a few have already been resolved.

Moving to Active since per @DamienMcKenna "Needs work" refers only to issues that already have a patch.

Version: 8.x-4.x-dev » 5.0.x-dev

Moving 8.x-4.x issues to 5.0.x because the older branch is no longer supported.
