The Media module applies default file display settings for the file types audio, document, image and video, see media_file_default_displays() in media.file_default_displays.inc.
If a new file type is added in File entity via admin/structure/file-types/add, there is no such default file display setting applied.
So I was thinking if maybe this could be made during the creation of a new file type to have a more consistent experience adding new file types.
Providing a patch on this for review.

joseph.olstadHas anyone tested to see if this is compatible with the media module (or another module that might do this)?
