UIkit Admin is an administration theme for Drupal built with UIkit. From 4.0.x it stands on its own, with no base theme, the same way Claro and Gin work, and every part of the back office is a single directory component.
Features
- A sidebar with Create, Build and Run sections that collapses to icons
- A command palette (Ctrl+K or Cmd+K) to jump to any screen you may open
- HTMX navigation with Drupal core HTMX: links, pagers, sorting and filters swap the page while the sidebar stays
- UIkit compiled into the theme with its colors: no CDN, nothing loaded from another host
- Content forms with the fields on the left, the meta in a sidebar and a sticky save row
- Sign-in screens with the site name and a choice of layouts: centered, start, end, top, bottom or spotlight
- Light, dark or follow the system; comfortable or compact tables; your own accent color
- Accessible: WCAG AA contrast, a visible focus ring, and axe checks on the admin screens in CI
- Works on plain Drupal core and on sites built with the Webship site templates
UI Suite and Display Builder
UIkit Admin follows the UI Suite initiative and makes use of its smart logic: a design system is shipped as components, and the screens are put together from them instead of from theme templates. Most of that logic now lives in Drupal core, so the theme builds on core directly.
- Single directory components. Every part of the back office (the rail, the top bar, the page, tabs, operations, tables, form elements, the status report, the sign-in screen) is a core SDC component with typed props and described slots.
- Display Builder and UI Patterns 2. The components carry the metadata those builders read, so they can be placed and configured in a display like any other component. Web View Modes Inventory ships Display Builder layouts that show content as UIkit Admin cards in the back office.
- UI Skins and UI Styles. The look is driven by CSS custom properties on top of the core style and token APIs: UI Skins changes the colors, radius and density and switches light and dark; UI Styles adds UIkit utility styles to blocks and components.
- A sibling of UI Suite UIkit. A Webship site uses UI Suite UIkit for the front end and UIkit Admin for the back office: the same UIkit framework on both sides, with no base theme shared between them.
Getting started
UIkit Admin 4.0.x runs on Drupal 11.4 and 12, with nothing else to download. Add it with composer require drupal/uikit_admin:^4.0, then set it as the administration theme under Appearance. Web Admin does both for you and shows the sign-in screens in UIkit Admin.
The 4.0.x branch is the standalone component theme. The older 8.x-3.x branch is a sub-theme of UIkit.
