I have a need to develop this functionality in Drupal 8. Rather than create a new module, I thought it would make sense to reuse PKI Authentication.

I could also promote it to a full project (instead of leaving as a sandbox) as I've noticed that this hasn't been done yet. So I'd like to bring this module back to life, so to speak, by redeveloping in Drupal 8.

I'd also be happy to take ownership if the original author is no longer interested in maintenance.

Once PKI Registration Authority is ready, my plans include working on Certificate Login, instead of this module. Perhaps we'll be able to do everything this module does over there.

All I would do is:

  1. Turn it into a real project, and then
  2. Mark it superseded by Certificate Login.
