Feature request: the ability to use a Taxonomy reference field as either the first or second value. The ability to have a user controlled vocabulary on the first field would be excellent for storing arbitrary key/value data.

There was a number of requests for reference sub field. However I don't have plans to introduce this because the change brings another level of complexity to the module. I suggest using more general modules like Field collection or Multifield. The other approach could be developing a special module that extends Taxonomy term reference widget.

Field Collection in 8 is decent and could do the job. Probably better with some clever CSS formatting.

Multifield isn't available for 8 yet, but there is an issue to work on it.

(Actually, after researching today, it looks like Field Collection may be closing down shop in lieu of the very powerful Paragraphs module.)
