The status field for published/unpublished does not appear for users who have access via the Override Node Options module (https://www.drupal.org/project/override_node_options).
A restriction was introduced by limiting access to only those with "administer nodes" as part of this patch: https://www.drupal.org/node/2005570
This updated patch includes a conditional to grant access if Override Node Options exists and the user has the "override $node->type published option" permission.

chris matthews commentedThe 3 year old patch in #2 to node.inline_entity_form.inc applied cleanly to the latest inline_entity_form 7.x-1.x-dev and fixes this issue for me, thank you for the patch.
