I've been trying to figure out how to make a simple search field without the pulldown menu to choose the content type, this site has the type of search bar I want but there doesn't seem to be an easy way to choose to not have the pulldown menu, anyone know how to do this, do you need to edit the code?

not that i can really help, but...

assuming you have the search module enabled, and the proper permissions enabled for roles, there is a "basic" search block available that you can enable and place. many themes also have the search box built into the theme's look and feel, that you can enable/disable in the theme's admin function; you can look at one and see how they built theirs.

beyond that, you may have to elaborate a little on your requirements. maybe a verbal picture. i, for one, don't understand the "pull down" example; are you referring to the collapsed advanced search are in the search results? maybe this howto page can help.
