I had an Entity Reference field in a content type that allowed me to link to nodes of the same type.
While editing an existing node, it would allow me to link the node to itself which was not desirable.

This patch resolved the issue of preventing self references but only as long as i used widgets defined by entity reference.

on using multiselect, the patch would not work. The attached patch resolves the issue.

multiselect-7.x-1.10 is no longer supported, because Drupal 7 is no longer supported.

Can you confirm if this is still an issue in multiselect-2.0.0-beta4?

I'm going to mark this issue as "Postponed (maintainer needs more info)"... but when you answer, please change it back to "Active".
