Thanks for the patch. I've tested it and have no problems with adding a "#type" of "colorfield" to my custom forms. Looking to use this instead of the color module.

That can be another approach. But I think it would be better and more standard to implement the color element. We could add a polyfill such as http://bgrins.github.io/spectrum/
