when publishing a node (creating content) and clicking the box "publish to front page".

What determines how long something stays on the front page and how does it move off the front page?

It will stay on the front page until either you un-promote it or until you promote more recent items such that it scrolls off (in which case you'll get a pager at the bottom of the front page to see older items). I believe the front page will hold up to 10 items, but it's possible I changed this on my setup and have long since forgotten how I did it.

thanks JOS,

I see the page on the bootm that were push off. I guess I should of asked what pushing it out of that area "manually unpromote"

is there an auto way to do this? based on a date perhaps or better yet a number of days?

I was just thinking the same thing would be super, and filed a feature request to the scheduler module, theorizing that it would be great if it hooked into the actions module.

This would be great for this type of thing, plus it could be used in many imaginable other ways.

The other way to do this is a bulk method, where you can go to admin>content and filter promoted items. Then check which ones you want to demote, and then it's done. Maybe that's just simple to do for most needs, though a way to not have to do that all the time would be nice, or when one is published the previous is de-promoted would be cool too.

yeah .. that would work - sort like a display table with checks with "submit" all checked button at the bottom

drop down confg box would work too - in settings

i see it as one of two ways with the selection box

1) after so many days
2) after so many nodes - this would probably work best for most people, as one day on one wesbite can be completly different on another website (# of posts per day - month ... )
