I know there is ecommerce module but I really don't know if it caters my needs. This is what I am looking to do - There will special content type "paid_review" which can be created by anyone once he pays say $1.

So the person will click on Create Paid review link, he will be shown a page where he has to choose a payment mode, he will pay, than again will get redirect to the site and than he can create the paid_review.

Another thought is, let the person buy some credits, say 5 credits for $5 and than he can use those credits to create paid_reviews. With 5 credits he can create, 5 reviews without everything going to payment prompt.

Can someone guide me on this ?

I'm using this one for a subscription site. It's $70, but might be worth it for what you want.

I am not sure it is going to be of much help. I am looking for something which glues well with other info.

I am not looking for some overkill solution. :) Is there anything else ?

I think ubercart can do that . Why don't you have a look at it.
It's a very good module.
