The Revision Information tab on the node edit page shows "New revision" before enabling better revisions, after which it then incorrectly shows "No revision".

Good call, thanks for spotting this. Just released version 7.x-1.2 which fixes this issue, but testing has been limited, please try it out and see if it works for you.
