Moving from xxamp/localhost to live server.

I've done my googling, youtubing, forum searching, and I'm completely flustered and lost.

First off, I am very far behind with web site creation of today. So, please assume I know almost nothing.
Granted out of the three main content managers I chose the most complicated.

So, I've created my site local host through xxamp and I'm in the process of trying to migrate my site to web host.
I'm pretty sure I have to upload my /htdocs folder, export/import my database, and change my setting.php file.
I'm just having trouble with all the micro steps in between.

I'm not sure if anyone can point me to a guide I could not find or if I need to find someone much more experienced than me to help me/let me pick their brain until I can get this thing uploaded.

Any help would be appreciated.
