There's a post on Google's Blog about implementing the rel="nofollow" attribute in order to fight spam. Using this attribute spam comments will not be used to calculate Page Rank (PR), and then there will be no reason for spam posts. There are also talks with Yahoo and MSN to implement this on their search engines.

There are a few blog sofware makers like Wordpress endorsing this initiative.

I think Drupal should be involved too.

We could benefit creating a new setting for anonymous users to add this attribute to the links they post.

You can find the whole post at Preventing comment spam

I found the Yahoo blog post on this subject:

A Defense Against Comment Spam

And the MSN blog post:

Steven, thanks for pointing me to Drupal's filter implementation of the rel="nofollow" attribute.
