I know many people new to Drupal come to the forums first, recently I've been surprised by meeting people new to Drupal who don't know how to find their local community events.

If you don't know about the http://groups.drupal.org site, you should go check it out.

This link gets you to a list of local events - you can search for your region or city. http://tinyurl.com/localdrupal

You can also search on Twitter of course, often local events and meetups will use the #drupal hashtag along with the city or region.
