Having access to, for example, musiciansfriend.com's product catalog database would be AMAZING. I'm sure that kind of information is extremely expensive and most likely proprietary, but if there's a free/cheap alternative it would work great for a project I'm working on.
A lot of musicians take a picture of the gear they're using before a show as a way to let fans see what they use or just to brag. :)
If I could interface with such a database, it would allow the users to "tag" gear in their photos. Building this from the ground up would be extremely time consuming considering wide range of gear out there.
Any ideas?

Unfortunately, nothing like
Unfortunately, nothing like this exists. Each manufacturer and supplier does its own thing. There is very little even standardized in the industry. I've been in the supplier/repair side of the music industry for 15 years. And that side of the industry lags far behind in technology in general. Some of the major suppliers don't even have a decent website yet! So, you'll need to either hand enter everything or get your users to enter things and keep on top of duplicates and the like. No small feat.
Good luck.

Thanks
Ya - I was afraid that would be the answer. I appreciate the response!
Amazon AWS Product Advertising API
Amazon AWS Product Advertising API is almost exactly what I was looking for. It has certain limitations, but it is an excellent resource!
