Hi drupals,

How do you make taxonomy access apply to comments, so that the access to follow-up comments is the same as the access to create and edit the topic. Taxonomy access should of course apply to the discussion thread, not only to the starting post.

I have used taxonomy access for forum categories, so one area (container) is "read-only" for normal authenticated users, and another area is open for discussion topics and replies. But this works for forum topics only, and not for replies (comments) to these.

About comments: I need to enable comments to use the forum module. How do I limit the use of comments in other areas of the site. I also find it frustrating, that the configuration of comments cannot be set differently for the forum replies (e.g. flat and sorted by date) than for comments in other places where they don't need to fit in with the forum layout.

I tried uieforum, but this looked not like anything I could use - maybe because I use chameleon theme (drupal 4.7).

I am converting an old static site to drupal to allow more interactivity from members, and the forum is the backbone of the new site. Generally, I find it very hard to structure the site, so that contents supplied by users (stories etc.) end up in the categories where they belong, and not in the more official parts maintained by the board. Do I need to learn a different way of thinking...

This might explain the comments not "listening" to taxonomy acces.

configure your content types:
administer > settings > content types

yes that might explain it - I think it also explains why forum posts should not be comments, then
I found the disable comments for content types, thank you for that

but I will still look out for a forum that uses another content type for forum posts, with proper access control
