Support for Drupal 7 is ending on 5 January 2025—it’s time to migrate to Drupal 10! Learn about the many benefits of Drupal 10 and find migration tools in our resource center.
Is it possible to backup a module folder (or create a version) for the module from drupal UI (similar to the contributed module 'backup and migrate') before updating it from drupal 'available updates' interface?

Vasu CreditAttribution: Vasu commentedSorry to revert it back to 7x. It would be nice to have it as part of 'Drupal 8x'., but what I need is some suggestion about how to do it in drupal 7 (that's why 'support request')

A contributed module could be written to do it, but one does not exist yet as far as I know.
I think Drush will allow you to do these backups on the command line. Otherwise you'll have to manually make a copy via (S)FTP or similar.

dpiDrush does (did?) this, in any case moved on in core.
