I've installed module simplenews. Works fine but I've got as sending format "plain text" only.

Any ideas what I've done wrong?

In order to send HTML content you need to have the "mimemail" module installed and configured.

Cheers!

I installed mimemail, activates, options set
in the newsletter module I've now the option htmal available
created a new newsletter (html)
but the resulting mail was plain text

the problem isn't the simplenews module, it is the mimemail module for Drupal5. Try to change the following line in the mimemail.inc file within the methode "mimemail_extract_files".

line 173: 'Content-Type' => "text/html; charset=utf-8; name=$name;",

change to: 'Content-Type' => 'text/html; charset=utf-8',

I modified the mimemail.inc as suggested

I composed a new Newsletter with an image > it was published correctly on the startpage

as I received the testmail, the image was not included

what have I done wrong?

When the drupal-installation is in a subdirectory of the site, and you use an image-src relative only to the server root ("/drupaldir/files/..." like i.e. tinyMCE generates on image-insert), the image-file is not found when generating the mail.
I've made a small patch to fix the problem, see update #3 at http://drupal.org/node/114312.

Complaining in the forums is unlikely to elicit a response from the module maintainer. Perhaps if you wrote a new readme and submitted it or a patch in the Simplenews issue queue that would help.
