well my drupal site is finally up (at http://www.hafif.org) but i still have tiny problems. one of them is building a search index from scratch. i already have around 15K nodes, and 50K comments. here is what i tried.

i edited the "comment_cron_last" and "node_cron_last" records of the variables table. and ran the cron job. it gave a timeout. i maxed my execution time in php.ini, and tried again. the cron job timed out again. i assumed this was because of the browser and took out the "Update the search_index table" section of the search.module. and created a stand-alone php file. then i ran that php file from the command-line. i definitely got more words indexed this time, but after 15 minutes mysql went away.

this happens everytime now around the one millionth word.. any suggestions?

Have you tried playing with the "Minimum word length to index" setting? Given the size of your database, I would avoid indexing short words. That aside, our search module could do with some refactoring. Feel free to take a lead in this.

i was successful with nodes, but the script that indexes comments still takes too much time to execute.. i will try to break the script apart so it processes 5000 comments in one pass..

as for taking the lead in refactoring the search module: i think that would be too advanced for me.. thanks though..

I'd like to thank you for a really sweet theme. Is it copyrighted or is possible to share it with other Drupal users?
Also, have to thought about putting your site to Drupal sites list?

as soon as i remove the turkish markup and resolve the IE 5.0 problems.. thank you for the nice comment :)
