There used to be a very good comparison of the three storage format in this project's documentation pages on d.org.

However, the names of the formats have changed for D7.

admin/help/date says nothing and sends me to http://drupal.org/node/92460 which is for Drupal 4.7 and 5 (!!) and the D7 page http://drupal.org/node/1326872 says very little either.

Not a bug.

Without it, how can users make informed choices when using this module?
Missing documentation is a bug.

joachim, try to be a little more respectful of the maintainer's time, at least post a patch if you're going to argue such a moot point.

If the maintainer or anyone else who understands the subjects could take a moment to briefly summarize the information needed, I'll happily turn it into a patch & add it to the documentation page too. But I can't write a patch about something I'm ignorant of.

And it's not a moot point; it's an important one. Documentation matters as much as code bugs.

The only patch needed is to change the help text to point to the top page of the documentation instead of a sub page that has since been archived. I have made that change. The documentation was already there but I re-organized it a bit and put another copy of the page that explains the date types at the top level of the documentation (it was already there in two or three other places).

While I was working on this I noticed that the help hook was in the Date module and should really be in the Date API module, so I moved it.
