I installed the Events module, and all of my events are showing up with a Start time of 12/31/1969 - 5:00pm, irregardless of the actual Start time specified in the content. What am I missing?

Did you install the event module after you had created the node? Try creating the node after you have installed the event module...

Also check your site wide time settings for what it is worth. Administer>>settings
