Drupal 7 Migration: DIY Resources

Drupal 7 support ending on 5 January 2025
Drupal 7 security support ends on 5 January 2025. This is the final extension of Drupal 7 end of life – Drupal 7 will not receive security support after this date. But don’t worry! The Drupal Association and Drupal Security Team are providing resources, tools, and partners to empower you to migrate your Drupal 7 sites.
This date marks 14 years since Drupal 7’s original release. While we’re proud of what Drupal 7 accomplished, we are looking forward to all of the potential that Drupal 10 brings!
What does security support ending mean for you?
Now is the time to plan your migration.
In software terms, end of life means that the version of that software no longer receives feature updates, bug fixes, or security releases. This last point is the most important. If a security vulnerability is discovered after the end of life date, it may be publicly disclosed, and you will be unable to update your site to protect against the issue. For this reason, we recommend beginning to plan your migration now.
You have two options moving forward. You can migrate your site directly from Drupal 7 to Drupal 10, or you can choose another open web platform for managing your website.
Whether you want to take advantage of new functionalities with Drupal 10 or opt for another option, we’re here to support you.
Timeline
We recommend that you kick off the major milestones in your migration process no later than these dates:
| Q3 2023 | Use the questionnaire below to decide on a direction for your Drupal site |
| Q4 2023 | Use your budget planning cycle for 2024 to set your budget for migration. |
| Select a certified partner to aid in your migration, and/or use our DIY resources to build a plan for your internal IT team | |
| Q1 2024 | Begin mapping your information architecture for migration, and decide if you will use this opportunity to update your content strategy. |
| Q4 2024 | Establish your strategy for ongoing support, maintenance and upgrades. |
Do it yourself
