Chris Pirillo Predicts Drupal Will Disappear

I just wrote a blog post titled How Long Will Drupal Be Around? in response to a post by tech blogger Chris Pirillo.

In Chris' post he laments the shortage of Drupal developers and even goes so far to state, "...I don’t think the platform will be around for too much longer."

Read my post to see my response. I thought it would be good to get a dialog going on this topic here as well though.

OpenPackage Video 2.1 has been released

OpenPackage Video is a set of modules for Drupal 5 that enables video functionality for your site. Submitted videos are transcoded to FLV format so they can be viewed directly in the web browser. Transcoding either occurs locally using FFmpeg, or videos are transferred to OpenPackage.biz, transcoded and then returned to your site.

To use the transcoding service on OpenPackage.biz, transcoding credit must be purchased. The price is $1.00 (USD) for one hour of video. Transcoding locally with FFmpeg is, of course, free of charge.

There is a demo on OpenPackage.biz. You can view uploaded videos and submit your own.

Features:

  • Auto thumbnailing
  • Fullscreen mode
  • Total codec compatibility
  • CCK field
  • Views integration - demo
  • Play statistics collection
  • Highly configurable, e.g. dimensions, bitrate, frames per second, etc.

Drupaligg Release: The Open Source Digg/Reddit Clone using Drupal

Hi People,

After having used Pligg for quite some time and frustrated with its limitations that only Drupal could meet (like, being able to post blogs, videos, stories, custom content type) to the website, I have started a project called Drupaligg (Digg clone using Drupal) and am releasing its first source code compiled and integrated with all required modules and interface. This is still a testing verison, but should work without much trouble.
