I posted this first to the Drupal Showcase section of the forum. I'm not sure if that was the best place for it, so I decided to post it here as well. I launched quite an innovative web-application recently, powered by Drupal and jQuery - Streetread.com. Streetread is an ajax-driven financial news aggregator that really shows off the potential of Drupal. As a thanks to everyone involved in Drupal, this great project, I spent a few days doing a writeup of the development process and some key techniques needed to produce such a site. I hope everyone can benefit from it.
The Knight Drupal Initiative is an ongoing grant program for Drupal development. To make the program successful, community review of proposals is essential.
We will meet for the next round of proposal reviews on Thursday, August 7th at 15:00 Eastern (US) (19:00 UTC). This meeting is part of our ongoing monthly review meetings. To be held in #drupal-dojo on IRC [freenode]. (See http://drupal.org/irc for information.)
I find it rather significant that the American Library Association published a whole issue entitled "Drupal in Libraries". While there are a couple other open source options in the library-sphere, Drupal is clearly gaining traction.
This (paid content) piece starts provocatively with a section entitled "Welcome to a new paradigm" and then jumps right into describing what Drupal provides to library scientists and how it can be used. The sections include:
Every year, I try to communicate the "Drupal Zeitgeist" in at least one of my "State of Drupal" presentations. To help me capture the State of Drupal for my presentation at DrupalCon Szeged next month, I'd like to invite you all to take part in the State of Drupal 2008 survey that I created. The goal of the survey is to better understand our needs and to help prioritize our efforts.
Google's Knol, a service similar to Wikipedia, was announced open yesterday on the Google blog. As the service will undoubtedly draw a number of visitors, I thought it prudent an article on Drupal be established. I've started one, but I have nowhere near enough history with the community to write the article by myself.
The AvatarBlocks module provides a collection of blocks for use on a Drupal social networking site. The avatars act as click-able links to the profile pages for your site's users. A live demonstration is available on the AvatarBlocks Demo site. Complete instructions for installing and using AvatarBlocks can be found in the AvatarBlocks Handbook.
