Sidebars overlapping with main content on front page only

I installed two new themes yesterday to try them out, LiteJazz and Alek 2.0. Since the install all of our sidebars overlap on the front page. I tried uninstalling the themes but it seems somethings stuck.
If I change the theme to just one sidebar, it appears at the bottom of the homepage.

Has anybody else had this problem? or does anyone know what I can do to fix it?

I tried restoring a backup but it failed because our site's so big now (approx 1.51gb) , although I am going to attempt it again.

Indicating tabs

With a static XHTML/CSS site that is not database driven I know how to create indicating menus or tabs, you know when your on a site and lets say your on the about page and the about tab is a different color to indicate that is the page you are on.

Can this be done with a drupal based site and if so how?

Thanks

One Row 3 Collumn Table for Menu, Impact on accessability?

I am building a theme and have run into the classic element height doesn't stretch to accommodate the designers crazy plans and instead stretches to content requirements like it should(doh!). The simplest solution would be to insert a simple one row, 3 column table into the page for the navigation to rest in the second cell, the 1st and 3rd cells being reserved for tiling graphics. This would allow the design elements of the menu to reach the bottom of the page regardless of how few links were in the menu at the time in comparison to the amount of content stretching the page.
