Theme development

Pretend for a second you wanted to style your Voting widgets like "Digg" (http://www.digg.com), but wanted the voting image to be something different, for example's sake a "Turtle".

What would be the best way to do this? For example ... http://shoutwire.com/

I modified the niftyCorners theme. While preparing for the update to 5.2, I attempted to turn off my niftyCorner mod, but something went wrong (surprise, surprise, hehehe...).

I'd like to either disable the theme from the database (I haven't found the field yet), generaly or by forcing the garland theme on my user's line in the theme field.

What should I put in the theme field in the user table for my user?

I want to divide my single block provided for view type into two column so that i can print content into two blocks.....

like name,phone,address,image,email all this are my view field and now i want them to show into two column of a block....how i can do that help?

I am using SimpleFeed to aggregate RSS feed content with feed items processed as nodes.

What I would like to be able to do is display a resized/scaled/cropped thumbnail of the first image contained in a feed item (if any) in a teaser list.

Is anyone able to assist with this. I've looked at ImageCache but haven't a clue as to how it might be employed.

Any ideas, suggestions, hints would be greatly appreciated.
