how to set my page as default home page

Hi guys,

I'm working on a website for a venue that has a public facing section, and a members section where upcoming events and photo galleries are listed.

I'm trying to make a menu that publicly shows some top level menu (like links to a photo gallery ot event calendar) that are only accessible to members of the site - the idea being that when someone clicks on them, they get bounced to a user registration page, and once they're signed up, they can access the requested page.

I'm very new to Drupal, but have learned a lot in a short space of time; but am now stumbling a bit!

Wondering if anyone can help me with a few things for a website I'm developing?

On http://www.jhdeplong.be/ the block on the right and the footer block are missing.
When clicking the first post I get "page not found" . On the second post the blocks suddenly appear.
This problem only occurs on IE7. FF2 works just fine.

I am having problems with positioning and displaying my search box. It displays fine in Firefox but IE 6 + 7 do not display the search box at all, when i look at the source the searchbox does not get generated ... anybody experienced similar problems?

I'm looking for a way to make the theme in drupal split up in 3 column as seen on http://www.netlog.com or http://www.turkishbox.com/
