mailfriends.com Migration - 1,000,000 posts, 93 modules

http://www.mailfriends.com/ the original penpals communitystarted in 1998, is now one of the most active friendship websites around

we launched our new look Drupal based site yesterday. We have over 8 million pages views per month and our growth rate is 15% month on month at the moment (and increasing). We have not started promotion yet, we only bought the site a few months ago so we expect these numbers to jump over the next six months.

It was a custom coded site that hacked together loads of different bits of opensource code and we have managed to migrate all of the features to drupal & the wonderful contributed modules. This was an extremely large project and we are proud that it is now live.

The new site is made up of:

  • 93 Modules
  • 75 Forums (OG based, some private, upgraded members only, role based, age based etc.)
  • Guestbooks
  • Private messaging
  • Ecards
  • Chat (non Drupal, we are working on a Jabber module but were not finished in time)
  • Photo Galleries
  • Profiles
  • Blogs
  • Notications
  • Frontpage
  • etc etc.
  • We have some more features ready to launch but are waiting for things to settle down as this was a huge change for the members and we want to give them time to get used to the new system (the 93 modules is just the current active ones, the new features mean the total goes to 116 modules).

    Some ideas

    Hi.

I present to you my first drupal website: http://www.digital-karma.org/

The website practically has no design, as i almost have no design skills (if someone knows some good photoshop tutorials that can teach me how i can do some layouts i will greatly appreciate this).
Anyway, somehow i wanted to keep it simple.

New Drupal Site From Donat Group: Amish Naturals

    Hi all,

We just completed phase 1 of a new site e-commerce site. As the company launched, but was not ready for on-line sales the e-commerce component is turned off at the moment. It was a relatively small project, but it had significant challenges.

    1. They want to start developing an online community around their brand.
    2. As they will be listing on the London Stock Exchange shortly they were requird to have an investor section.
    3. As this was basically a start-up company they had absolutely no content and little time on their hands to create any for us.

New site: Throng - for TV fans

    Hi everyone,

We recently launched Throng - for TV fans which is proudly made using Drupal. Here's some features:

Each user gets a blog and categorises their posts in two ways: once using the type of post (rant, rave, gossip, spoilers, news etc) and once with the name of the show(s) they're writing about.

This way, people can follow their favourite blogs, or just read news/spoilers etc, or just read posts about a specific TV show (e.g. Grey's Anatomy or The O.C.. There's also a forum view, if people prefer looking at the content that way.

Because the list of shows is rather long (and growing as people post about other shows), a special page was created with the help of the tagadelic module.

The taxonomy image module has enabled each show has its own picture.

The love/hate module has meant that people can list the shows they love/hate. And when they go to the shows page and they're logged in, the colors of the show change to pink/blue depending on their preferences.

just look to the edited default theme
