What site is about:
NarutoMonkey.net is a forum centric naruto fan site. It has the naruto manga and naruto anime for download, as well as the Bleach, One Piece, D.gray Man and Death Note serieses. We're supposed to be adding a new manga series for download every week, but we're a bit late on that =[ We have just set up a wiki, which we hope will eventually become one of the most comprehensive anime and manga encyclopedia's on the interweb.
What we did:
Forum is VBulletin based, and the whole site revolves around it atm. We use vbdrupal as our main site (frontend) straight out of the box. We use it to just deliver news content, though we might run our donations system off of it. Wiki is mediawiki based.
How we are promoting the site:
1/ We put adverts on related forums that have a free advert section. This is how we got most of our members in the beginning.
2/ We focus on google
i) We choose a less competitive term, but still high traffic to focus on (Naruto Forums / Forum), people making this search are the ideal members we want, plus its not highly competitive. Currently we're on page two of google for this but we'll probably make number 1 in a few weeks. Next will be the term naruto, which will be a lot harder. BTW we seem to have hundreds of different highish ranks for obscure terms mainly due to our list of anime direct downloads, which are just a bunch or rapidshare, mega upload and bittorent links. This gets us quite a bit of traffic.
ii) I put links in all my forum signatures (including this forum) to my site, focusing on my selected terms. I always bold the links because google loves that. If you have like 1000 posts on some related forum, thats a 1000 relevant links to your site. Very useful thing to have.
iii) I have quite a close relationship with many of my members. You know, like chat to them on msn and stuff, and i sometimes ask them to do the same signature trick as above on other forums that they are active on. Since they love the site, and I am like the only admin that tries to be friends with as many members as possible, they usually help me and the site out like this.
