Drupal is up and running but how do I ...?

Members list

I have been searching for 2 days, and am a little lost.
I recently converted my static site to a Drupal site, for ease of use etc.
(Its a dating community site)

I have set up the members, so that they share image galleries, private msgs, live chat, etc etc.

I then added the members.module so that I could restrict who can see online members, since only members can view other members galleries.

(Trying to) allow comments on some content and disallow the rest

Hello,

I am using drupal from the first time. I've felt comfortable with setup, main modules administration and even themes 're-configuration' (I'm planing to post some changes I'm working on 'xtemplate' to avoid the use of tables and make it xhtml and css complient).

BESIDES, I'm organizing the main menu with 6 diferent sections:

  • 2 are 'about myself' & 'about my project' what is static contents that allow no comments (I'm using the 'page' module for it), and no comments should be allowed
  • 1 is 'friends'with a list of all of them and their websites. I'd be keeping it up to date, and no comments should be allowed
  • 1 is works my friends did or are doing, and there may be an option for comments on each work. As well as each friend should get rid of 'his/her section'
  • 1 is 'get in touch' (I'm thinking of forum module)
  • and 1 is 'news', (I'm thinking of blog module)

SO, what I'm asking for is:

  1. what module should I use better for each section,
  2. how to allow comments on some of the sections
  3. what about taxonomy wiyh all this (I read it about taxonomy and vocabulary, but don't get a clue on organizing it properly and administrate it)

Thanx in advance for any help, and please, let me know if I should be more specific in my questions.

User management - how to do

I have a website currently with static pages and a Forum. I have just installed Drupal and tested Drupal's stories management and Forum. Drpal is OK for stories, but, I must say, I don't like Drupal's forums so I want to stay with my old Forum scripts. However, I also want to add dynamic pages to my site, so I need Drupal to manage stories. I am facing the problem of having two authentication systems for users. As my users are registered to my Forum yet, they should not be obliged to register again to Drupal and to manage two accounts, two password etc.

A few issues

I'm still new to drupal and my knowledge of css and php is limited. I have a few things that i want to know how to do.

1. I'm using a modified chameleon/marvin theme. For the header where an image or logo for my website goes, it only allows a text link back to the main page. Nowhere in the configuration options does it let me change that to an image. I have looked around to find that line in the css and theme files and i think i have found where it is, but i'm not sure what i should type in or change it to. Like i said, my knowledge here is limited.

2. Another thing i had a problem with is I'm running a site that has a black background with white text, But the way the style sheets were written for the theme, all the text on the whole site is linked. So, the problem is any tables i make on the site have a gray background to them, basically obscuring the white text. I couldn't find the right place to change that setting in the style sheets. And i mean i've looked everywhere. I tried adding a new line to take care of it, by changing the text to black on tables but it just changes all the text on my site, so u can't see anything.

3. I think the size of the font in my nodes is alittle big compared to the rest of the text (the menu items basically). I tried changing this, but again, it affects everything on the site and even the navigation menu text size changes, and it's too small at that point.

switch "add new comment" and "read more" in teasers

is it possible to switch the order of the links on teasers so that "read more" comes before "add new comment", and if so, how?

FAQ: UTF-8 problem for 4.4.1 for anonymous users

A known bug in Drupal 4.4.1 can cause UTF-8 issues on some server configurations. A fix has been applied to CVS, so this will make it into 4.4.2/4.5.

Several people have posted a thread asking about it, so if you are experiencing this issue, you can apply this patch to fix it for now.
