Post installation

The privatemsg module puts a link on the navigation menu that includes the number of unread private messages for the current user. That has been working fine, but I have created a new menu for my site, disabling the default navigation menu. I now need a way to alert users when they have new private messages. I am not sure where to start on this one. Has anyone here created a menu/snippet/block, etc. to do such a thing?

Is there a way to create a context sensitive menu in Drupal ?

I m looking for something similar to the way blocks work, where you can show a block in a certain path. I would like to show certain menu items depending on the page being viewed (e.g. the path is og, so show, add group and group listings)?

I'm trying to put together a college newspaper site with daily updates. We'd like to have a mailing list that sends out the daily updates and the simplest means of doing that was probably linking it to the RSS feed (though if there's another way to link it, that would be good too). I'm wondering if anyone can help.

How do I checkout drupal in main virtual document directory public_html instead of in 'drupal' subdirectory ?

I tried to create a php node type with Drupal, it has a form that is posted to. However, posting to the node works but doesn't keep the theme. Next, I pulled the code out into a static .php page seperate from Drupal but still want to restrict it to the 'superuser' role that I've created. How can I test if the user is logged in and has access to this role with Drupal ? Are there any examples ?

I found that simplenews is great and does have a lot of ways to subscribe to the different newsletters.

Before posting it in the request section, I wanted to know if someone has found a way to add a form that will be hosted on another website (not drupal, just normal web page) and that can add users to the newsletter of simplenews.
