Post installation

Hi all,

How can i put a static introduction to my site on top of the news on the front page? It can be a static node whos kept on top of each other and cannot be viewed on any other page, but i cant manage to do this....

I am looking at Xaraya and Drupal

Whereas i have found that Xaraya can do a lot.

I want to know if Drupal can do the following.

1). Display Small Blocks which should be arranged in any order in the website.
For e.g. left column, right column, Center and inside the main Center Block i need (Center - Center ) , (Center - Left) and (Center -Right ) etc. etc.

I've installed both the mail and webform modules, and they seem to work, but neither are sending the email messages. The regular registration emails from Drupal come through just fine, so i would think these should too.

I'm not sure where to start looking, to find the trouble.

Is there anyway to make user blogs secured from public viewing? I would like only authenticated users to view be able to view posts, whereas going to blog/1 currently displays a users blog to any browser.

Basically, how do I grant access control to blogs?

BTW, the securesite module is not an option as the server uses php as a cgi.

What code do I need to use in order to print a specific nodes content in a block i.e. node 16 - I've hunted & can't find a how to anywhere!

I installed Drupal several months ago and it has been working normally. I haven't visited the site in a couple of weeks. When I did, I found the following:

Warning: mysql_connect() [function.mysql-connect]: Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/tmp/mysql.sock' (2) in /home/www/sjmagain/includes/database.mysql.inc on line 31
Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/tmp/mysql.sock' (2)

What does this mean? I haven't changed anything so I don't understand why it's suddenly broken.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
