Drupal is up and running but how do I ...?

How to have custom php snippet governed by throttle?

I have a site that has some php scripts that can be pretty demanding, calling up a LOT of content. We've run into problems where, under moderately heavy loads (5000 pageviews/hour), the server starts to strain and performance slows way down.

I'm wondering how I might be able to introduce a throttle into the most demanding scripts so that they are taken offline if traffic spikes too high, or if server load gets too high.

Flexinode....links don't work once page template is uploaded....

I'm working on a links page and here's how it was done(thanks to Suzi for the help)....

I created a flexinode with the field structure of:
Title (automatic)
Website (add url)
Description (text area)

I then created a "page" called it Links that contains this snippet.....

Event Module - how to set the default form values for publishing

Quick question - how do I set up my site so that when a user enters an event, the radio button for "promote to front page" is off by default? Can these defaults be set according to the role of the user? Thanks.

Multi-site selective content sharing? (is this a really dumb way to do this?)

I have a client that is a nationwide restauraunt chain, with probably about 14 locations total. So far, their CMS setup is going great (drupal 4.7 is pretty damn amazing to work with.) However, there's one feature that they ABSOLUTELY insist on having that totally has me stumped though, because it's not something that drupal was really designed for, but now I need to try to hack into it. They need to have a system-wide admin be able to post content across all sites simultaneously. If that's not bad enough, they need to be able to edit any of a number of static pages and have the ability to have that update occur system-wide as well. These are pages like menus, directions, about the restauraunt, etc. and would be individualized to the local restauraunt under normal circumstances, except when corporate deemed in nessesary to make a system wide update.

Aside from reservations I have about usability in a system where local admins are getting their content overwritten by a superadmin, I have no clue what the best way to pull this off would be.

Here's what I've come up with, and it looks like it *should* work, at least for the static pages. Can anyone offer any feedback / validation / suggestions? Maybe there's a much easier way and I'm going about it all wrong? Thanks!

  1. Create all the static page nodes on the various systems. (most of these will be flexinodes because of the structured content they need to store)

New Users not getting registration email

I've got Drupal 4.6.5 running on a hosted site and configured through Cpanel. Most things seem fine, but when I attempt to create new user accounts (as if I were some one else, registering as an authenticated user), none of the registration emails gets delivered to any of the mail accounts I point them at. I enter a username and email, which is followed by the "Your password and further instructions have been sent to your e-mail address." But no mail ever arrives.

Author link in page

Hi all. I've created a page. I want the author info like 'Submitted by admin on Tue...' to show a link to the author. This works on comments, I think through the privatemsg module, but I can't figure out how to do it other places. Is this possible? Thanks.
