Drupal is up and running but how do I ...?

Allow users to create groups

Hi all, just installed Drupal - wonderful program, very excited about using it!

Hoping somebody can point me in the right direction ... I'm trying to create a community site where users can create their own "groups," then invite others to join. Members of a group would then be able to post to a forum that is private to that group (and, hopefully, have the option to sign up for email notification when a new post is made).

Is this doable? Any help would be much appreciated ...

Changing the navigation/category listing

Im pretty much a beginner and I wanted to know if there is a way to change the navigation/category listing (Like in the Drupal Example Site - where is Druplicon and under it - create content, my account, recent post etc). What file is it where i can change it?

question about moving php code to a drupal module

I have a fairly large codebase that I'm thinking about moving to drupal. My current site does a lot of of index.php?query=something and was wondering how in Drupal I would handle this. I was able to create a custom module and output the information but how would I do something like create a search results page?

Also, I'm having a problem when I create a "page", I put some custom php code into the page. The problem is that this now shows up on all "pages". I'm not sure why this is working this way.

thanks,

jonathan

LoginToboggan lets un-validated users through

I've got LoginToboggan.module installed on my 4.7 install and I can successfully create new accounts and login. However, I noticed that it's allowing me to login with a newly registered user before I click the validation link in the email. ?? Note that I do not have the "Set password & Immediate login" setting on and it appears that there is no immediate login -- which is good.

Basic question

I have a question that probably has a very simple answer. I'm still finding out about how drupal works.

I want to post pages but I don't want the authoring information to show up, is there any easy way to get rid of that? (meaning the author and the date)

Help a noob.

Taxonomy - I can't get it right

I am having a really hard time with this taxonomy stuff. What I want to do seems simple, but getting it configured has been a nightmare. Here is an example (yes, blogs are turned on!).

I create 4 blog categories: Cats, Dogs, Birds, and Fish. Then I go to post a message. The four categories show up with drop-down boxes, but all the boxes have "none" in them. So I can't assign the blog post to any of them. How can I do that?
