Post installation

I've asked how to make gmap show user location a couple of time, but no one responded. So I'm wondering, has anyone even suceeded at that yet? :/

I'm running a clean install of Drupal 4.7. Whenever I preview a comment I get the following error messages:

* Validation error, please try again. If this error persists, please contact the site administrator.
* The body of your comment is empty.

The body of my comment is not empty though and I can still save the comment. When I save, the comment shows up as normal, but this message is an annoyance and shouldn't be showing up.

I have been reading many postings by people suddenly unable to log in to their 4.7 when everything *was* working just fine. I'm now experiencing this myself, with Internet Explorer. Everything was okay, then suddenly, I can no longer log in. I've been trying for three days. All I get is the login screen over and over. Yet the Who's Online says I'm logged in. The log says I'm logged in. But I have no admin menu and no access permission for anything that requires being logged in.

I've done a search for double opt-in, but haven't found anything. Are there any modules or snippets for doing a double-opt in mechanism? (See http://email.about.com/library/glossary/bldef_double_opt-in.htm for one definition.)

I installed Category and used the taxonomy wrapper. I imported the old taxonomy (which thankfully is very small.)

I lost the connection to my forums. The posts (nodes) are still there but there are no containers. When I try to add a container it says it's been added but doesn't show up in the list.

I can see all the old forum containers when I administer -> categories. But I don't know how to get my forum to map to these again.

does anybody know how i can get more information from users when they first register to my site e.g address phone numbers etc
