Is there a way to remove all aliased URLs automatically?

Hello need to make something like the Create Content Tab

Where, the description is written along with the link to the thing.

I need to make a category for articles to be put in therefore I need something like that please assist.

I have a catagory structure like so.
Computers-
----security
----cool stuff
----exploits
Motorocycles-
----Ride a bike
----Fix A Bike
----Buy A bike
HR-
----Payroll stuff
----Bad stuff
----squid

I am currently unable to to change block settings (home>administe>blocks) for any theme other than the one I currently have set as the default. When I attempt to select a different theme the settings displayed remain those for the default theme and the theme previewed remains unchanged as well. When the default theme is changed, the settings still remain as they were for the old default theme. The only exception to this is when a two collum theme is selected in place as default in place of the three collum default it was stuck on.

I'm running Drupal 4.7.2 (absolutely brilliant by the way) and would like to to be able to allow users to attach files to their posts i.e attachments.

I've tested this function on my home development server (PHP4 and PHP5, Apache 2) and all works perfectly.

However, having uploaded the new site to my live webserver I find that all is working as expected apart from:

The attachements posted on pages return an incorrect url and when clicked on produce a 404 page not found error.

The incorrect url reads like this:

all of a sudden attempting to post forum topics results in a "page not found" error. Myself and others were creating topics with no problem 2 days ago, but the logs show nothing to indicate when this change occured or how or why, just a bunch of poormanscron runs and aggregator activity. Permissions are set correctly etc. its very perplexing.
