Drupal 8.x

Bootstrap Barrio exposes a number of node variables to its node twig file, for example author_name, a themed author name field, and date, which is also themed. 

I'd like to ultimately access these fields from a custom-block twig file, which I've themed. However, author_name and date don't get passed through to the block twig by default, only the node twig, so I assume I have to pass it on myself from my sub-theme's .theme file in a preprocess_block.

I've been running around in circles for quite some time now with trying to figure out how to install Drupal 8/9 using all the various methods provided in the docs. And before you give me a direct link (RTFM) please know I have read almost every post regarding installing composer/drush and D8.

There is something I'm missing because I cannot for the life of me figure this out. I can install a D8/9 site manually without issue, but I want to learn how to be more efficient and as I understand it that means learning composer and/or drush.

In Drupal 8.9.3, i installed phpmailer/phpmailer and drupal/phpmailer. I am using Composer 2.0. But,

./dr updb
 [error]  Please install the PHPMailer library by executing 'composer update' in your site's root directory. (Currently using PHPMailer library Missing)

I have a D8 site (up to date) setup so only Admin can create accounts. However I am still seeing multiple accounts registered each day - they are blocked pending admin approval but even so they shouldnt be getting even this far...

I have been watching apache logs (after installing mod_security) to ty and see what is going on and it seems that there are POSTs such as this:
