Taxonomy, as a tool in core - question

When I first came to Drupal, I had never used a CMS or even heard of the word taxonomy. It was a very frustrating experience trying to wrap my brain around these new tools. I could see the power in theory, but couldn’t truly understand the way to use this structure as a tool. LOL, I was so confused I couldn’t even phrase my questions correctly in sentences, that other people could understand.

But, its been awhile now and I believe, I have a better ground root understanding on the use of taxonomy. But it seems to me that taxonomy as a “core” tool (core being a key thought here) is only partially complete as a core tool.

The bottom structure as a tool is there, but the top end (if you will) is missing. Perhaps I’m wrong or you grin as you see the light go on in my silly cyberhead.

I guess to ask my questions, I have to define how I see this working.

I really didn’t see this clearly until I started using pathauto.mod and sitemap.mod. Very handy tools, for laying out the structure of a website and staying focused on the structure.

Setup: (going to use letters, as I think I’ll need my numbers later)

Voc A
Terms a, b, c
So you have: Aa, Ab, Ac

Voc B
Terms a, c , c
So you have - Ba, Bb, Bc

Ok, now you use pathauto, to “automatically” use the power of Vocab and Terms, so you have something like this.

/domain.com/A/a/page_title

And how was this done... I can't get it done with the category module...

This category info site http://category.greenash.net.au/docs has exactly the structure I need for my site...

This is what I do :

1) I make a container and want it to go into a custom menu... but even if I select that the link should be in the custom menu, it appears in the navigation menu, and I have to move it manually to the custom menu.

Could anyone tell me howthis was done ?

Hi,

Could anyone tell me how the menu of http://nichegeek.com/ was made ? There is like a few categories there and when you press on them your taken to the content page with all the posts there ... seems simple no ? but how ?

CMS Comparison - Drupal vs Joomla

Hi All,

I need your guys advice...

I need to provide a solution for a new website for a client of mine and they have mentioned they want to work with Drupal. I, on the other hand, have been working with Joomla (and before that Mambo) for quite some time now, and need a little convincing as to why Drupal would be a better solution.

Is there anyone out there who has worked with both systems, and do you have any advice to offer on this matter?

Download page

Hi all,
Does anyone know how to create a download page that requires the adding to a newsletter list to download a file?
... or do I have to create a new node type for this?

Looking to add my del.icio.us links into a block on my sidebar

I've tried using the delicious module but it doesn't use your username, just tags
and it creates a page and not a real block. I added my delicious rss to the aggregator,
is there any way to pull that information and put it on my sidebar?

Thanks
