Fix for characters with a ' in the name, and also a few other minor fixes.

Initial release on the 7.x-1.0 branch.

* The main purpose of this release is to add a nag -- with drupal_set_message() -- to prompt administrators to read the notes about breaking changes in recent versions.
* Minor code improvements.
* If nothing major is broken, this will likely be the last release before 1.0.

First public dev version.
