According to the README file in the Zen 7.x-5.6 STARTERKIT/sass, you can now use sourcemap=true by editing the config.rb. That would be great! However, within the config.rb itself it says this requires sass 3.3+ and compass 1.0.1+.

The gemfile for Zen 7.x-5.6 installs up to sass 3.3 (which meets the requirement) and up to compass 0.13 (which fails the requirement for using sourcemap).
