I started this journey of Drupal just under 5 years ago and as I was going through some of my history, came across this: http://drupal.org/node/249142 - Just wanted to thank the maintainers of this theme for being the gateway to my contribution to this fantastic project. 5 years later, I am module contributor, theme maintainer, and all around blue blood. (I also sing at the occasional DrupalCon) - Zen really opened my eyes to how flexible this platform could be. While I don't select it for every project any longer, I do recommend it for everyone starting out in the front-end.

Wow! You used Zen 5.x-1.0?

That release had required some old-school hacks in it. Database queries and exec(). Good times.
